What Does Success Mean to You and How to Find Out
Have you ever asked yourself that question and got a clear answer. To be honest, many people don’t as often, one question leads to another, the process needs consistency, curiosity and kindness, 3 qualities that are hard to have for yourself.
The thing is, there are no shortages of people (in your real life and online) telling you want success is. Maybe, you already have ‘happiness’. You have a great job, a loving family, and a life that appears perfect on paper.
But what if you still feeling unfulfilled? What if you feel something is missing?
And here you are, reading this post because you want to discover what true success means to you. This journey is not just about fulfilling your roles but also about discovering yourself.
My story
I found myself in this situation many times, but there was some reason to not work on myself.
Lack of Time: The demands of my job and family left little room for personal time.
Lack of Energy: The physical and mental toll of all my ‘to-do’s drained my energy.
Financial Constraints: I kept saying ‘I can’t afford to invest in myself.
But the real issue was my struggle with self-worth and self-esteem. I didn’t value myself enough to invest in myself.
I plodded along, pretending everything was fine, while everything started to fall apart. My health, my marriage, my career and my home.
It was only after the divorce that I finally gave myself permission to live my life my way, and I found the time and energy and invested in myself.
Today I am the most successful I have ever been, professionally and personally.
Here are 10 things that helped me on my journey that will help you too.
Be Curious About Yourself Start paying attention to yourself, what you are thinking, feeling, doing.
Be Consistent at Journaling Give yourself some time each day, even as little as 10, where you journal. Somewhere quiet, where you are uninterrupted. Writing, whether freehand or using prompts will give you clarity in this process. If you are looking for prompts, I have written a Prompt A Day E-Journal you can download.
Be Kind to Yourself The journey can sometimes bring up difficult thoughts and truths, so always treat yourself with kindness.
Reflect On What Areas Are Important to You The first step is to see your life holistically. You may choose to concentrate on 1 area, but to start with, look at it as a whole. Typically, people choose 6-8 areas, such as health, relationships, career, social, financial, creative and hobbies, community, faith, personal development etc. The areas are up to you, but I would suggest keeping Health and Personal development in your list.
Reflect on Your Current Life Mark yourself out of 10 on each of the areas.
Reflect on Your Past Life When did you feel successful in these areas? What were you doing that you are not doing now? What was different then?
Define Your Success Take the time to define what success means to you personally. Is it about career achievements, family happiness, personal fulfilment, or a blend of these? Having a clear understanding of your definition of success can guide your decisions and actions towards a more fulfilling life.

Reflect on You Take time to reflect who you are. What truly matters to you. What are your core values? What makes you feel fulfilled and happy? Understanding your values can help you align your actions with what truly matters, leading to a more authentic and satisfying life. Reflect on your thoughts, what is holding you back? Your baggage, your self-care, your mindset. This will be the most telling and the most powerful part of the process.
Celebrate Small Wins Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Recognizing and appreciating your progress can boost your confidence and motivation. It's a reminder that you are moving forward, even if the steps seem small.
Invest in Personal Growth Allocate time and resources for your personal growth. This could mean taking a course, reading books, or pursuing a hobby. Investing in yourself not only boosts your skills and knowledge but also enhances your confidence and self-worth. If you are interested, I have run a course, Revitalise, which is based on my own growth journey.
Conclusion
Success is not just about external achievements but also about inner fulfilment. It’s about aligning your life with your true values, finding confidence in who you are, and making time for what truly matters. Your journey is an ongoing quest, not just through your daily responsibilities but within yourself, discovering what success genuinely means to you.
