How to self reflect

Self-reflection is a process to understand your behaviour, thinking patterns, values, personality, likes and dislikes, hurdles and motivation, you get the gist.

Let’s start Reflecting

  • Give yourself time, daily, even 15 minutes in a quiet place where you will be uninterrupted. Give yourself the pleasure of getting to know yourself!

  • Be curious about you. Tune into yourself and start noticing things. What do you enjoy doing, and you don’t enjoy.

  • Notice your energy levels. Do you thrive on your own or with people around you? What elevates your energy and what depletes it?

  • Reflect on how you are is social situations. Do you want to be at the centre of the party? Have you got a lot to say? Or do you prefer to listen? to absorb? to observe?

  • How do you choose to spend you spare time?

  • How do you react in a crisis?

Look at your thoughts and feelings, and reflecting on what they mean and what they are telling you. What are you thinking about the most? Do these thoughts lift you up or drain you?

Also look at your beliefs, what they are helping you achieve, what parts of your life are they strengthening, and what are they stopping you doing.

How do you handle situations? What does your day to day life look like? Do you take risks or play it safe? Do you decide quickly or ponder?

What are your values? These will impact what decisions you make. Are there any that are in conflict?

There are many great self-reflection questions to start yourself off with.

You probably won’t figure it out in 1 day but keep noting any “discoveries” down. Give yourself time and be kind. It is not always an easy thing to do but trust the process and have faith that this will enhance your life.
