Journey to a peaceful life

Do you ever feel that you don’t have a handle on life? That try as you might, you end up in the same situations, making the same mistakes and life just feels complicated, drama filled and difficult.

For a long time that is what mine looked like. I wanted a peaceful and calm life which I glided through with dignity and grace. Instead I clumsily stumbled along, make the same mistakes over and over again, and regretting my actions along the way. Arguing with the people I loved, wasting energy on fighting pointless fights, and allowing my ego to get in the way. I felt stuck.

Yet, I was at the point in my life where I felt I should have “got” it by now. You know, “life” and how to deal with it. But somehow, I still ended up in situations I’d rather not be in, making a mess of them and kicking myself because I feel I should know better. Surely life should be filled with more happiness and peace, less anger and chaos.

Over the years I had read a lot of great books - on personal development, science, religious texts and scriptures. So, I had knowledge, but hadn’t really used it. If I wanted a different life, I had to do something different, put the knowledge into action.

So, I embarked on creating a life for myself which was calm, happy, peaceful and where I was in control. Where I could mentally cope with life's challenges. With calming my mind through meditation and positive inner chatter, getting to myself and my ego through self-reflection, and understanding the reality of self-responsibility, I focused on the type of character I wanted to be and the life I wanted to live.
